    ABM Sponsors Police Cricket
Nottingham, 25 June 2010 - ABM sponsored the British Police Cricket Club match against the Royal Air Force at Vine Lane, Uxbridge today.
This was to be another day of records in the History of British Police Cricket. It would begin with Graham Shaw walking out for his 100th Cap and becoming the 1st player to achieve this landmark and finish with Ray Doyle becoming the highest run scorer in a week surpassing the previous best held by Malcolm Roberts 321 in 1993.
Yet another day of soaring temperatures, glorious sunshine and clear blue skies greeted BP on the final day of the Tour. The Captain kept everyone happy by winning his 4th toss of the week and had no hesitation in deciding to bat.
Ray Doyle and Huw Evans were sent out to open on the stroke of 11am. The pair had a quiet opening but were soon into their stride with 56 off 10 and 100 off 15 when the fielding restrictions were lifted. This made little difference as they continued to pepper the boundary with monotonous regularity as the RAF bowlers toiled away on the flattest and hardest deck of the week. This was a “Road” 150 came up in 24th over and they were racing towards the 1st wicket record partnership of 191 held between Malcolm Roberts (Met) & Martin Roberts (D&C) back in 1996 when Doyle failed to middle one and holed out for an excellent 90 off 100 balls. The partnership was worth 183 and lies 2nd in the record books. At this stage Evans was on 76 with 21 over’s still remaining. Evans’ 50 had come off 54 balls and he continued to play freely eventually reaching a well deserved maiden century off 98 balls. He was finally bowled for an impressive 123 off 112 balls (13x4, 3x6) in 45th over just as he was about to try the “Mongoose” that “Ed” had brought with him.
A final flurry of runs from Mark Davies 39* and the innings closed on 348‐6 just 2 runs short of the 350‐1 at the same venue in 1993. BP have fond memories of this ground. At last BP had delivered an innings of substance and batsmen who had got themselves established went on to deliver the big score that was required.
After tea Graham Shaw was given the honour of leading the Team out on his 100th appearance for British Police. Martin Thursfield was once again the pick of the seam bowlers picking up 2 early wickets in 7 over’s for 24 runs including the dangerous Parton. The RAF Capt Compton was comprehensively bowled by Dowling but the batsmen continued to try and play positively and reached 64‐1 off 10. They continued to play aggressively with good contributions from Catlow 35 and Williams 44 but once these had departed the innings rapidly collapsed in the space of 9 over’s with the introduction of Graham Shaw who finished with 5.4‐0‐30‐5. This actually brought a smile to his face for the first time during the week!!
RAF closed on 204 all out and a BP victory by 144 runs.
The Umpires had no hesitation in awarding the ABM Man of the Match award to Huw Evans for his maiden BP century which was presented by Tim Eatherington.
Once again BPCC would like to thank ABM for their support of Police Cricket and we look forward to a long association with them in years to follow.
