- ABM helps to cut police service red tape with new Crime Wizard module
- Nottinghamshire Police first in line to adopt new crime input tool to save admin time and reduce bureaucracy
- Nottingham, 05 March 2009 - Hard on the heels of the recent report ‘Reducing Bureaucracy in Policing’ by Jan Berry, criminal intelligence IT specialist, ABM, has launched Crime Wizard, a new module for its Information Management System (IMS), that increases efficiency and reduces bureaucracy, saving up to 60% of the time taken to record crime details.
- IMS Crime Wizard provides a simple and flexible interface, guiding the user through the information entry process when recording a crime. Additional functionality allows police forces to follow the “Lean Principles” approach recommended in Berry’s report, by creating input processes which are proportionate to individual crimes’ severity.
- Having used IMS for six years, Nottinghamshire Police will be one of the first services to implement Crime Wizard. By simplifying crime recording activities using the module, officers will be able to spend more time investigating and solving crimes, rather than re-keying basic details. As crime desk operatives are fed all the questions pertinent at the time of initial data entry, the system will also reduce the time required for follow-up calls.
- Pauline Smith MBE, Head of Contact Centre Operations at Nottinghamshire Police explains: “The integration of Crime Wizard and the Command and Control system will mean that we can provide officers with far more crime information which has been taken at first point of contact by the operator straight from the caller.
- “The pilot project for Crime Wizard has already been useful in tackling the recommendations in Flanagan’s Review of Policing, in areas such as record keeping, data collection and case processes, reducing the repetitive re-keying of information, saving time and reducing the risk of errors being entered.”
- Crime Wizard supports customised data entry procedures for different units to meet their specific requirements and provides different data entry procedures for different crime severities. Time required for training is also significantly reduced because Crime Wizard guides the user through the data input process.
- Alastair Luff, Managing Director of ABM UK Limited, added: “Bureaucracy has long been a concern of police services throughout the UK, even prior to the Flanagan report, putting a frustrating barrier between the expectation and delivery of frontline policing. The new module will further enhance and deliver improved efficiencies and performance for police services utilising IMS.
- “Customer feedback from initial trials has found that Crime Wizard delivers significant time savings of between 30% and 60% when compared to previous crime recording processes. Integration with a Force’s Command and Control system also minimises the duplication of data entry.”
- ABM’s Information Management System is an integrated solution covering incident, crime, intelligence and property management, encompassing the collection, collation, management and analysis of information relating to the core operational aspects of policing.
